FOSTER

We are thrilled that you're interested in fostering! We wouldn't be able to help so many rats without you. Please look over our policies and let us know if you have any questions.

Foster policies:

  • Must be 18 years or older to be primary foster.

  • Must provide the best care for your foster including adequate housing, diet, socialization, and medical care if needed.

  • Must have consent from landlord/roommates before fostering.

  • Must ensure rats are kept separated from resident rats to avoid any illness or injury.

  • Must alert the rescue at the first sign of illness.

  • Must coordinate veterinary and potential adopter appointments.

As a foster, your responsibilities include:

  • Providing food, housing, and enrichment for all fosters in your care

  • Coordinating and transporting fosters to vet appointments

  • Meeting with potential adopters

  • Overseeing the general well-being of your fosters

  • Creating marketing materials to help your foster get adopted (bio, photos, etc.)

You can decide which rat(s) you would like to foster, or we can work with you to find the best fit. Our rats' average time in our care varies between 3 weeks to 3 months, so please be ready to make that commitment. The rescue will pay for all veterinary care and can loan a cage if needed.
